Required Materials
-
Fabric: see table in the step "Preparation & Cutting"
For the pants.
Cozy jersey. Since the pattern is oversized, the fabric doesn't necessarily need to be stretchy.
-
Drawstring: approx. 1.5 m
To thread through the waistband. Can be used as a ready-made tape or sewn from the same fabric.
-
Elastic: see the table in the step “Preparation & Cutting”
For the folded waistband. You can choose the width to your liking – I used a 2.5 cm wide elastic.
-
Sewing Thread: Universal Sewing Thread, Size 120
Suitable for the recommended needle size NM 70-80.
If you have elastic sewing thread, this is ideal for stretchy fabrics.
Required Tools
-
Sewing machine or overlock – with stretch stitch
-
Scissors - A large fabric scissors for cutting and a small thread snip for precise work.
-
Pins or Fabric Clips
-
Measuring Tool
-
Iron
-
Chalk or Fabric Marker - For marking dots and seam lines, choose a removable marking tool such as tailor’s chalk or a fabric marker.
-
Bodkin or safety pin - for easily threading the cord through the drawstring casing.
Description
If you want it to feel extra cozy at night and still work for everyday wear: these oversized pajama pants with a drawstring waistband (straight leg) are made for exactly that. They sit comfortably as a mid rise, have a wide straight leg, and intentionally come without pockets. The result is a clean look and a super comfortable fit.
Sew them in jersey. Since the fit is oversized, the fabric does not have to be extremely stretchy. What matters most is how it feels against your skin. Choose a jersey that is soft, breathable, and simply comfortable.
And the sewing stays simple: you can sew the pants on a regular sewing machine. Use a stretch stitch for the seams. Use a simple straight stitch for the hems and for topstitching along the elastic.
At a glance:

- No pockets, clean and comfortable
- Perfect for sleepwear, loungewear, and (with the right fabric) everyday wear
- Fabric: jersey, soft, breathable, comfortable on the skin
- Sewable with: regular sewing machine, overlocker optional
