Required Materials
-
Fabric: see table in the "Preparation & Cutting" section
For Front Piece, Back Piece, and Sleeves
Soft, stretchy sweatshirt fabric. Since the pattern has a relaxed fit, almost all medium to heavy sweatshirt qualities are suitable, even without a high elastane content. Particularly suitable are French Terry (smooth inside) or brushed sweatshirt fabric (fluffy inside) for more warmth.
-
Ribbing: see table in the "Preparation & Cutting" section
For Hem Band, and Sleeve Cuffs.
The best choice is ribbing fabric with good elasticity (often with elastane content), so the edges remain stable and don't stretch out.
Alternatively, you can also use a stretchy sweatshirt fabric if it recovers well after stretching.
-
Sewing Thread: Universal Sewing Thread, Size 120 Suitable for the recommended needle size NM 70-80. If you have elastic sewing thread, this is ideal for stretchy fabrics.
Required Tools
-
Sewing machine or overlock – with stretch stitch
-
Scissors - A large fabric scissors for cutting and a small thread snip for precise work.
-
Pins or Fabric Clips
-
Measuring Tool
-
Iron
-
Chalk or Fabric Marker – For marking seam lines, choose a removable marking tool such as tailor’s chalk or a fabric marker.
Description
Sometimes you just need that one piece you can always throw on. That’s exactly what this oversized hoodie is made for: cozy, relaxed, and seriously comfortable.
And the best part: after I finished mine, my daughter and my partner immediately wanted one too.
This is a women’s sewing pattern with a deliberately oversized fit and dropped shoulders. The roomy cut makes it an easy everyday go-to, whether you’re wearing it at home, out and about, or as your favorite layer to pull on.
The hoodie is hip length with a straight hem and a separate hem band. It also features a large hood with a slight overlap at the front (just a few centimeters), which gives it that extra cozy feel.
For best results, use a sweatshirt fabric with a bit of stretch. If the fabric has no give at all, the neck opening can end up feeling too tight when you pull it on. The pattern is designed with ribbing for the hem and cuffs.
Difficulty-wise, this hoodie is intermediate. A little sewing experience makes it the most relaxed project, but as always, the instructions walk you through each step in a clear, beginner-friendly way.
If you feel like adding your own touch, this hoodie is perfect for it: contrast ribbing, a small label on the kangaroo pocket, decorative topstitching, color blocking, or length adjustments. And if you want to add a drawstring to the hood, you’ll find the exact method in the included basic knowledge guides.
